Troubleshooting
Small dirt particles and debris can cause the hydraulic valves to stick and not function properly. Below are the steps to troubleshoot this problem. The whole process should take around 10 minutes or less.
- Disconnect the power connector from one of the valves and press the joystick button (with tractor key in “ON” position if wired to OEM fuse block). You should hear an audible click.
- Repeat for the opposite valve. No sound could mean the valve is stuck.
- Once the malfunctioning valve is identified, remove the valve from the valve block. 7/8” and 1” wrenches required. You may want to reinstall the solenoid onto the valve and energize while it is out of the valve block to confirm malfunction.
- Manually depress the plunger by inserting a fine point sharpie marker (or equivalent) into the end of the valve. Observe the orifice moving from the far groove to the near groove.
- Depress the plunger several times. If it is sticking, gritty, or stuck, spray the internal components of the valve with WD40 and/or compressed air to dislodge the debris.
- Clean the valve, then lubricate with fresh hydraulic oil.
- Reinstall the solenoid onto the valve and energize to confirm functionality.
- Reinstall into the valve block and test for functionality. Repeat on the other valve if required.
The male quick disconnect (QD) fittings on the Artillian Hydraulic Diverter Kit P1 & P2 hoses may not engage properly with some OEM female quick disconnect fittings. This could allow fluid to flow into the hydraulic hoses, but not return to the tank on the tractor. Symptoms may include:
- Grapple (or other attachment) opening / closing for a short period of time and then “locking up”
- Grapple not functioning at all
- Tractor dump / curl operation working for a short period of time and then “locking up”
- Tractor dump / curl operation not functioning at all
- Compare the male QD fittings from the Artillian HDK P1 & P2 hoses with the male QD fittings on the original dump / curl hoses removed from the tractor.
- If the nipple on the QD fitting poppet valve is larger on the tractor factory QD fitting, then the Artillian HDK kit may not function properly.
- Remove the male QD fittings from the Artillian P1 & P2 hoses and from the tractor factory dump / curl hoses.
- Replace the male QD fittings on the Artillian P1 & P2 hoses with the male QD fittings removed from the tractor factory dump / curl hoses. Reattach the P1 & P2 hoses to the appropriate female QD fittings on the tractor.
- The grapple (or other attachment) and the tractor dump curl functions should now be working properly.
Technical Questions
Our pallet fork frames have been designed to be useful for much more than just pallet forks. No other manufacturer/importer of pallet forks has features that our pallet fork frames have. Our Fork Frame Attachments (2″ Receiver Adapter, 3pt Quick Hitch Adapter, 54 Plow Adapters, Grapple, etc) depend on these unique features to function safely.
Therefore, our Fork Frame Attachments will only work, and are only available, to customers of our pallet fork frames.
The easiest method is to simply lift them up with the fork frame on the tractor, then shift the Modules into place. Then, engage the lock pins on the rear. It takes seconds! Manual lifting is not necessary.
• We make no guarantee of the compatibility of Artillian Hydraulic Diverter kits with third party attachments / implements or Cab enclosures.
• Our Hydraulic Diverter kits are custom designed to fit specific loader models, and we provide the appropriate fittings for Artillian attachments. However, in some cases additional fittings or hoses may be required due to Tractor manufacturer (OEM) variations.
It is common to think that longer forks are always better. But this is not always the case. The kind of work you do with your tractor should guide your selection. The lighter the attachment used on your loader means the more you can lift with it. Because we use only premium strength US made Steel, Artillian attachments have the best Strength-to-Weight ratio in the industry!
Here are a few examples to help.
Reasons for favoring longer fork tines:
- Lighter weight increases load capacity
- Moving items like brush piles, stacks of logs
- Reaching deeper into an enclosed area, like a truck bed
- Moving large evenly distributed palletized loads needing extra support
Reasons for favoring shorter fork tines:
- Moving smaller, denser items,
- Moving loads where the center of gravity can be favored closer to the loader (should be anyway)
- Tips of tines are easier to control as they are adjusted up and down
- Ground engagement work (digging/tilling)
- Building stone walls, patios, and other landscaping work
- Prying up objects like roots and stones, slabs of concrete or asphalt
- Working in tight areas, such as around trees, buildings and vehicles
- Moving heavy loads that require the least amount of dead weight as possible
- Shorter tines, being lighter, are easier to lift and handle
- Less storage space required
As a starting point, appropriate fork size would generally be:
- Subcompact Tractors (Deere 1000 Series): 36″ tines
- Midframe Tractors (Deere 2000 Series): 42 or 36″ tines
- Compact Tractors (Deere 3000 & 4000 Series): 42″ tines
The 36″ tines work fine for moving pallets.
There are a few reasons for this.
- To keep the system as lightweight as possible whenever the backrest is not needed.
- Unlike other brands, our pallet fork frames do not depend on them for stiffness and rigidity.
- Visibility is improved without a backrest so it only needs to be mounted when required.
- With the Backrest removed, you can lift objects higher up without hitting a low ceiling, such as for stacking your attachments on garage shelving.
- With the Backrest removed, you can get generally better access in areas with obstructions, such as pickup truck caps.
- Some people don’t see the need for a Backrest and others insist on having one at all times so, it’s optional.
- To ship our fork sets by ground parcel services, the backrest must be separate.
- With the backrest as a separate component, Artillian forks can be disassembled and easily handled, such as for seasonal storage or for packing into a vehicle for transportation.
- Our backrest can always be added later!
Artillian products are the result of extensive investment, engineering and development. Consequently, our design information is proprietary.
- Handling loads that are significantly taller than the 22″ tall fork tines and fork frame
- Moving piles of brush
- Moving piles of logs
- Moving an object that needs to be tied down from a high point
Our Pallet Fork Frames are optimized for highest lift capacity and lowest weight. For these reasons, there isn’t a good way to add the features necessary to attach the frame to a 3pt hitch. Our recommendation would be to purchase a dedicated set of 3pt hitch pallet forks.
